The San Juan Historical Museum’s collection of research material is extensive with detailed information available covering a wide variety of local history through several mediums.
The photograph collection includes over 2,000 photographs. The photographs may be accessed through a research appointment. Copies of photos may be obtained for a fee. Contact us for ordering information and fee schedules.
Over 35 oral histories are available taken from noted island residents covering a wide range of historical topics. See the oral history page for detailed descriptions.
Bound volumes of The Friday Harbor Journal from 1906 to 2000 and The San Juan Islander from 1900 to 1910 are contained in the collection.
Family histories of noted San Juan Island families, industries, businesses and buildings are just a few examples of the extensive material available in our research library.

Our Research Library is open to the public by appointment only, due to limited staffing. Please complete and submit the form below and be as detailed as possible with the information you are seeking. Research fee is $20 minimum. Fees charged help defray the costs of operating the museum facilities. Please bear in mind the museum cannot guarantee research results and requests may take an extended time to process.
