The San Juan Historical Museum’s collection of research material is extensive with detailed information available covering a wide variety of local history through several mediums.

Photograph Collection

The  photograph collection includes over 2000 photographs. The photographs may be accessed through a research appointment. Copies of photos may be obtained for a fee. Contact the museum for ordering information and fee schedules.

Oral Histories

Over 30 oral histories are available taken from noted island residents covering a wide range of historical topics. See the oral history page for detailed desriptions.

Newspaper archives

Bound volumes of The Friday Harbor Journal from 1906 to 1999 and The San Juan Islander from 1900 to 1910 are contained in the museum collection.

Additional resources

Family histories of noted San Juan Island families, industries, businesses and buildings are just a few examples of the extensive material available in our research library.

Our Research Library is open to the public by appointment only, due to limited staffing. Please complete and submit the form below and be as detailed as possible with the information you are seeking. Research is at no charge for the first hour. If research exceeds an hour, a fee of $25 per hour will apply. Please bear in mind the museum cannot guarantee research results.
